Accomplished Professor Dedicates Life to Help Prevent Cyberbullying

Bullying comes in all forms but one sticks out the most; cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is common amongst young adults and teenagers due to social media being such a popular source of communication. Dr. Sameer Hinduja is an expert researcher involving this topic. Hinduja is a Professor in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Florida Atlantic University. He is also a co-director at the Cyberbullying Research Center. He specializes in safe social media usage and cyberbullying. He is recognized worldwide for his work on this specific topic.

Cyberbullying occurs with technology such as cell phones, tablets, and computers. Sending mean messages or threats, spreading rumors about another person via social media, and catfishing are all dangerous forms of cyberbullying. Statistics show that over half of adolescents and teens have been bullied online while about the same number have done the bullying. Over 25 percent of teens and adolescents are being bullied repeatedly through their cell phone and social media.

Dr. Sameer Hinduja is a public speaker for cyberbullying and posts quite often on his blog about his journey and his work. Kids accept friend requests from people they may not even know and can cause problems for them later. Hinduja dedicates himself to helping others understand bullying as well as its many forms. The latest post involved the First Lady of the United States and her speech at the UN Lunch. She spoke of condemning bullying and attempting to combat the issues at hand with cyberbullying. Dr. Sameer had been quoted in that article readying himself and his team to help others who want to prevent and respond to cyberbullying.

Cyberbullying can be prevented and Dr. Sameer Hinduja is hoping to help that happen. By assisting teens and adolescents respond to cyberbullying, it can be prevented or stopped. He hopes to get through to students by talking with them and helping them understand the consequences with cyberbullying. He speaks at events for parents to learn more and help maintain a resilient child.
